LisSero is a bioinformatics tool for in silico serogrouping of Listeria monocytogenes based on a PCR-based method described by Doumith et al. It detects the presence or absence of five target genes (lmo1118, lmo0737, ORF2110, ORF2819, and Prs) to classify isolates into major serogroups (1/2a, 1/2b, 1/2c, and 4b) commonly found in food and human sources. Unlike traditional serotyping methods that rely on somatic (O) and flagellar (H) antigens, LisSero provides serogroup-level classification, rather than exact serotypes. Isolates with only the Prs gene detected are labeled as 'Nontypable,' often corresponding to serotype 4a or 4c. By streamlining serogroup identification, LisSero facilitates epidemiological surveillance and comparative genomic studies of L. monocytogenes.
